Cost of Living in Gran Alacant 2026
Dining, transport, groceries and monthly budget — real numbers from 2+ years living here
Based on 2+ years living in Gran Alacant. All prices verified against Numbeo (April 2026), Expatistan, and official operator websites. Data reflects April 2026 market rates.
Gran Alacant is a coastal urbanization of around 10,000 residents — roughly half expats from the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, and Poland — located 10 minutes south of Alicante airport and a 5-minute walk from Carabassí beach. It's consistently one of the most searched destinations by prospective expats, and for good reason: it offers Mediterranean living at prices that still make sense in 2026.
This breakdown covers what you'll actually spend on dining out, groceries, and transport — the three categories that most affect day-to-day life. The monthly budget tables at the end show the complete picture.
TL;DR — The Quick Answer
Single person all-in: €1,400–1,700/month (rent €700–850 + living costs). Couple in 2BR: €2,000–2,600/month. Menu del día €10–14. Mercadona, Lidl, Aldi all in town. TRAM does NOT reach Gran Alacant — Vectalia bus to Alicante: €5–6, 35–55 min.
Dining Out in Gran Alacant: Real Prices
Eating out is one of the biggest lifestyle wins in Gran Alacant. The menú del día — Spain's legendary set lunch with a starter, main, dessert or coffee, bread, and a drink — costs €10–14 at most bars and restaurants in the area. This is not tourist pricing; it's the same price locals pay, Monday to Friday.

|---|---|---|
| Menú del día (3 courses + drink) | €10–14 | Mon–Fri, 13:00–15:30; bread included |

| Cocktail at a bar | €8–10 | Evening bars in Gran Alacant and Santa Pola |
Insider tip: tipping in Spain
Tipping in Spanish bars and restaurants is purely optional — rounding up the bill or leaving 5% maximum. Many locals leave nothing. Service is included in the price.
The freshest and most affordable seafood is in Santa Pola (15 min by car), which has its own active fishing port. The local specialty is gamba blanca de Santa Pola — white prawns regarded as among the best in Spain. A 500 g portion at a local bar costs around €4–8 depending on the venue.
Groceries: Supermarkets in Gran Alacant
Gran Alacant has excellent supermarket access within Centro Comercial Gran Alacant: Mercadona (largest, best fresh produce), Lidl, Aldi, Consum, and Dialprix — all within walking distance of most apartments. You won't need to drive to Alicante for weekly shopping.
The weekly Thursday market on Avenida Escandinavia sells local fruit, vegetables, cheeses, cured meats, and ceramics at prices 15–25% below supermarket rates. According to SpotBlue's Gran Alacant guide, it's a favourite among both expats and Spanish locals.

Car vs. bus: what do residents do?
Most Gran Alacant residents own a car — practically essential for Costa Blanca day trips. For daily Alicante commutes, the bus is viable but less frequent at weekends. Car-free living is possible for remote workers; the terrain is flat with cycle paths toward Arenales del Sol. Monthly transport budget: €100–200 with a car; €50–80 bus-only.
Housing and Utilities
Long-term rental prices in Gran Alacant are significantly lower than central Alicante and far below Barcelona or Madrid. According to Housing Costa Blanca, the best time to negotiate a 12-month contract is October–March, when seasonal demand drops.
